Brazil: Frimesa invests R$800 million in new plant

Brazilian meat manufacturer Frimesa has announced an investment of R$800 million ($251 million) to develop Brazil’s largest plant for pork-based products.

According to Giro News, the facility will be 141,000 sq m in size, constructed on a plot of 115 hectares, and located in the city of Assis Chateaubriand in Parana. The first phase is expected to be finished by 2018, with the whole complex set to be completed by 2025.

Commenting on the move, Frimesa’s executive director José Zydek said: "This project will further enhance the presence and quality of pork on the Brazilian market, boosting not only Frimesa-associated cooperatives but the sector as a whole".

Alongside the plant, Frimesa said that it expected to realise investments of R$2.5 billion ($784 million) in the entire production chain by 2030, involving both Frimesa and its affiliated cooperatives.
