Austria: Nestle to close plant in Linz

Nestle, the food and drink multinational, has announced plans to close its factory in Linz, Austria "as part of its on-going portfolio review".

Built in 1879, the Linz facility manufactures a broad range of grocery products and has a total production volume of about 6,000 tons. 127 staff are employed at the site.

Announcing the news in a statement, Nestle said that the factory was "facing strongly declining demand along with changing consumer trends".

Despite the closure, Nestle said it wanted to reaffirm its commitment to the Austrian market, where it currently employs around 1,000 staff at 16 sites spread across the country.

Production at the site is planned to come to a stop by the end of March 2018.
