Australia: Aldi moots 120 new stores
Discount retailer Aldi has unveiled plans for as many as 120 new stores in Australia as part of long-term expansion plans in the country, according to a report in Australian Food News.
In a statement, the chain revealed that it would be looking to open 65 new stores in 2016, including 20 that had been previously been announced for each of South Australia and Western Australia, along with 25 new stores for the Eastern seaboard.
“Aldi’s popularity with consumers and success on the Eastern seaboard has given us the confidence to invest more than $700 million in our expansion into Western Australia and South Australia, where our long-term expansion plans will see up to 120 new stores”, said a company spokesperson. “While we are eager to bring the Aldi difference to more shoppers across the country, store openings will be dependent on site acquisitions, planning approvals and construction timelines”.
