Denmark: Dansk Supermarked to acquire Kiwi stores

Danish retailer Dansk Supermarked has reached an agreement to acquire 81 stores from competitor retailer Dagrofa.

According to European Supermarket News, Dansk Supermarked aims to convert more than half the acquired stores into Netto outlets, whilst the other stores are going to be offloaded to other retailers.

With the transaction, Dagrova will be able to focus its efforts on its banners Meny, Spar, Min Kobmand, Let-Kob and food service operations.

Dagrova announced the plans to close 118 Kiwi stores last May and with this agreement and the conversion of the remaining stores into Meny and Spar outlets, the company has solved the situation of all Kiwi stores.

The Netto banner will become the Danish chain with more stores, the first one hitting the 500 mark.

The agreement is subject to approval of Denmark’s competition authority (Konkurrence - og Forbrugerstyrelsen).
